Construction update: Alto ISD - New High School
After three tornados struck the City of Alto in April of 2019, Alto ISD's existing high school campus was left in shambles. Due to severe damage, the school building was condemned and closed to the students and community. Students were relocated to portables near Cam'Ron Matthews Field, where they have been attending classes for the past year. In November of 2019, the people of Alto voted in favor of a $10.5 million bond to provide students with a new school building, as well as renovated the band hall and build a new gymnasium.
Construction began in December of 2020 and in December of 2021, the 28,400 SF high school's building structure was near completion. With most exterior walls and roofs in place, the interior walls are now being constructed. The 7,000 SF band hall renovations are complete while the 23,600 SF gym remains under construction.
The new high school building will include:
2 Science labs
The new gymnasium will include 1,016 fixed seats and 12 spaces for ADA seating. In addition to girls and boys locker rooms, there will also be locker rooms to host visiting athletic teams. New concessions will overlook the football field and be accessible for all sporting events including football. Restroom access will also be available during football games, while the remaining portions of the gym will be closed to the public.
Band hall renovations included:
Instrument storage room
